2. Definition and scope of psychology

Content details: Definition of psychology - History of psychology - Branches of Psychology - schools of psychology.

Learning objectives: Upon the studies,
our students are able to:

1. Understand the meaning of psychology (Knowledge)
2. Know its origin (Knowledge)
3. Classify its branches ( Application)
4. Gain knowledge about schools of Psychology ( Knowledge)

Learning skills: To define, To understand, To draw mind maps, To write contents and To explain

Teaching method:

1. Motivation: Motivating students by marrating day to day life experiences related to the content.
For example: what is mind? what is soul? what is the relation between mind and soul...etc....

2. Introducing the lesson: From known facts to unknown facts.
For example: why do a nurse need to know human psychology - Possible reasons are to get connected well with patients at various mindsets due to their illness.

3. Method: Lecture - Demonstration method with the help of teaching aids.

• Meaning of psychology - Study of human behaviour
• Origin of Psychology. It is the branch of philosophy, emerged as science about 2000 years ago.
• Father of psychology: Wilhelm Wundt
• Other philosophers - Hippocrates, Socrates, plato, Aristotle....
• Country of origin - Greek. Developed by Hippocrates, Plato, Aristotle Socrates.
• Schools of psychology: Structuralism, functionilsm, Behaviorism, Psychoanalysis and Gestalt psychology
• Branches of psychology:

3. Developmental psychology
4. child psychology.
5 Animal psychology.
6. Abnormal psychology
